New bill proposes harsher punishments for laser pen offenders

The Laser Misuse (Vehicles) Bill, published Wednesday 20th December 2017 and presented before Parliament for debate, proposes:

to increase the penalty for shining or directing a laser at aircraft, road vehicles or ships to up to 5 years imprisonment, an unlimited fine or both;

to expand the list of vehicles, beyond just planes, which it is an offence to target with lasers, including trains, buses, boats and even hovercraft; and

to make it easier to prosecute offenders by removing the need to prove an intention to endanger a vehicle.
