Amended: Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) (No. 3) Regulations 2020

06 January 2021

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) (No. 3) Regulations 2020 make provision for a local authority to give directions relating to premises, events and public outdoor places in its area.

These Regulations have been amended from 6 January 2021, to clarify the powers of a police community support officer.

The definition of ‘constable’ includes PCSOs, but in relation to enforcement, a PCSO cannot use reasonable force, if necessary, to remove people from events or public outdoor spaces (under regulation 12(3)(b) and (4)(b)); this power only applies to a constable.

These Regulations have also been extended, to expire on 17 July 2021, rather than 17 January 2021.
